They say I'm complicated too. Some of them are scared of me. Some of them say I shouldn't be like this. BACKGROUNDWhatever scant bit of a normal, peaceful childhood Rosmontis might have had, she doesn’t remember it. She doesn’t remember a lot of what came after either, but that’s for the better. No one is quite sure just how long she might’ve been trapped in that Columbian laboratory, used as an experimental subject in an effort to develop powerful human weapons. Originium Arts can be destructive—sometimes devastatingly so—and it’s no surprise that there’d be those seeking to mold their wielders into unstoppable tools of war. And with Rosmontis, they got just that. After all the isolation and torment, after countless tests and experiments, they successfully turned a young girl into a weapon that could level a building with her mind. They got what they asked for. The problem with creating a weapon with thoughts, emotions, and resentment, is that it’ll always come back to bite you. One day, she was strong enough, upset enough, that she brought the whole lab crashing down around her. An organization who specialized in digging into the secrets of labs like this one managed to fish her out of the rubble, and made all trace of her existence disappear before handing her off to the care of Rhodes Island. There were a number of reasons the odd pharmaceutical company was the right fit for helping the girl get back on her feet. The most obvious were concerns over her health, as the artificial organ implanted in her head may have infected her with Oripathy, a disease the company’s focus was on treating. But the state of the world of Terra and the mistreatment of those Infected with the disease required the company to wade into dangerous territory to treat people, and so they employed a number of combat operators—including those skilled in the use of Originium Arts. So it was there on the Rhodes Island landship that this girl began to learn how to cope with her trauma and the memory loss that stemmed from it, learned how to interact with others again, and learned how to control the volatile telekinetic Arts that almost seemed to reflexively activate to protect herself whenever she became upset. It became clear that with as destructive as her powers were, the best course of action would be to help her train into a better sense of control over them. It was left up to her choice whether she would like to further learn while putting those skills to use for good out on the field. And so it was that Rosmontis consented to becoming one of Rhodes Island’s elite combat operators, slowly but surely finding a new family amongst them. Chernobog Incident Summaries of Chapter 7 and Chapter 8. Lone Trail Synopsis of Lone Trail event. PERSONALITYThe thing most people first notice upon meeting Rosmontis is how seemingly quiet she is. Her speech tends to be flat and straightforward, but often she holds onto a thoughtful silence until necessary for her to speak up. Opening up to others is not always an easy task for her, so it’s not uncommon for others to initially perceive her as cold or withdrawn. Instead, the truth is she prefers to think things over more thoroughly, largely in part because of her memory problems; she wants to be sure she understands and remembers things correctly before engaging. The longer she knows someone, the more likely it is for her to be more open and at ease with them, though her mannerisms still tend to be more subdued. Partly because of her faulty memory and partly to combat the horrors she had gone through as a child, Rosmontis is very driven about both learning more about the world and her desire to make it a better place. If given a task, whether something simple or on the battlefield, she will dutifully carry it out. She feels a strong need to be a responsible, good person, and will often look to her older peers for examples of how to exemplify this. Those who are close to her, especially if they are seen by her as family, have her unending loyalty. Because she’s gone through the grief of losing just about everything in her life once before, she is extremely protective of those she is close to; she will do everything in her power to keep them safe and happy. She dislikes that she was forced to gain her powers (and hates that others see her as a monster because of them), but if she has to have them, then she is determined to use them for good. Keeping her loved ones safe is the most important manifestation of that. But she can go to some ugly extremes as a result of both her protective nature and dream of bettering the world. Should anyone hurt (or worse, kill) anyone she cares for, she can become rather single-minded in exacting vengeance against the perpetrators. Her normally quiet demeanor becomes more testy, and while not impossible, it can become quite a task to dissuade her from such a path. And her ideas of creating a better world can sometimes skew rather violent when faced with “the bad guys” who enact harm on innocents. The obvious way to make sure the world is full of only good people is to eliminate the bad ones, right? But beneath it all, she is still a sad and traumatized kid at her core. A lot of her negative qualities tend to stem from that, and in her vulnerable moments it’s clear that she does feel burdened by everything she’s gone through, despite how valiantly she tries to shoulder it. She’s left with claustrophobia and a fear of laboratory-like settings, and when faced with the resurfacing of unpleasant memories, she can unconsciously lash out with her telekinetic powers, making it incredibly important she try to maintain emotional stability.
